Step by step | When Jacob Rohner founded his sock company in 1930 in the small town of Balgach in the Swiss Rhine Valley, he had a revolutionary idea in mind. He wanted to create a sock that would stand out for its performance, comfort, quality and design. An essential companion for the most demanding conditions and activities. Using circular knitting machines, the finest natural materials and with an attention to detail that only the Swiss could perfect, Rohner broke new ground and exceeded all expectations for a sock.

1873

In 1873, Jacob Rohner founded an embroidery machine factory with eight machines in a building that belonged to his father.

1878

Until 1878 Jacob Rohner achieved worldwide success as a merchant and exported embroideries abroad. He travelled to North America and Asia and visited important trading and textile industries.

1930

In 1930, he wanted to design socks that would excel in performance, comfort, quality and design.

1933

In 1933 he took over the machinery of the Billeter sock and stocking factory in Küsnacht.

1952

In 1952, he renovated the factory from the ground up, which further improved the quality of the brand and allowed him to develop revolutionary concepts in hosiery.

1980

In 1980, the "SupeR" non-slip sock was introduced, Rohner's best-selling product since its launch.

1989

Jacob Rohner AG founded a company in Portugal in 1989: Jacob Rohner Texteis, S.A. in Oliveira de Frades. This is the location where the socks are still being bound and finished today.

2002

In 2002, the compression sports sock came onto the market. Later, in 2007, a world first was created: Rohner Socks produced numbered socks, an innovative solution for sorting socks. In 2011, Rohner produced its first special climbing socks, the "Rohner Rock".

2012

2012 was a very successful year in which the Rohner online shop was introduced.

2013

In 2013, the "Your Next Footprint" strategy was introduced with the "SuperR" organic cotton socks.

2015

Since 2015, Jacob Rohner AG has also added bioceramic socks to its product range. These socks are able to regulate body heat. The bioceramic fibre has odour-inhibiting and antibacterial properties.

2019

In 2019, Jacob Rohner AG has introduced copper socks to the Rohner range. These socks have unique antibacterial functionalities. Copper is used in healthcare because of its unique properties.

2020

In 2020, Jacob Rohner AG won the ISPO Award 2020 in the "Snowsports" segment and in the "Socks" category with the "Copper Jet" product.

Establishment of a joint venture with JRVG in Portugal

2022

Jacob Rohner AG has raised its internal quality management processes to a new level in 2022 and received the internationally recognized ISO:9001:2015 certificate for it. This is a significant milestone in our company history and shows that we are constantly working to improve our processes in order to offer our customers the highest quality and safety.
